He is best known as the drummer of the Madison and Wisconsin-based alternative rock group Garbage, along with the producer of Nirvana’s 1991 classic,Nevermind. He also made the records Gish and Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. Produced Brian David Vig on August 2, 1955 in Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA, he was nicknamed Butch as a child after his dad gave him a crew cut. He studied piano for six years, but swapped his piano for a $60 drum kit after he saw The Who perform on The Smothers Brothers. Vig attended the University of Wisconsin and studied film direction. He’s performed in local bands Spooner and Fire Town, then later set up his own studio, called Smart Studios, in town. With this specific, he got the chance to work with a few of the biggest music artists in the Indie region including The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, David Grohl as well as The Foo Fighters, and Nirvana.
